Registration Open for 2023 Vermont Emergency Management Conference
Registration is now open for the 2023 Vermont Emergency Preparedness Conference. This year’s event will be held September 20-21 at the Burke Mountain Hotel and Conference Center in East Burke.
The annual conference allows local, state, and federal emergency responders; town officials; and others involved in emergency planning, response, and recovery to come together and learn more about best practices, and network with others with similar responsibilities.
The event features a general session, awards ceremony, and breakout sessions throughout each day. Once the schedule of sessions is finalized in early August, VEM will publicize those sessions through our usual channels.
For more details visit the VEM Vermont Emergency Preparedness Conference page.

Another $8 Million Available From Flood Resilient Communities Fund
The next round of funding from the Flood Resilient Communities Fund is now open. Another $8 million is available with a deadline of July 31, 2023.
Flood Resilient Communities Fund (FRCF) was established by the Vermont Legislature under Act 74 with the intent of improving landscape and community resilience and reducing the future public safety and water quality impacts of climate-related flood hazards in Vermont, focusing on buyouts of flood-vulnerable properties.
The fund has another $8 million available for projects like flood-vulnerable property buyouts (which do not need to have been previously damaged, they just have to be at risk); buyouts of vacant, at-risk properties; floodplain restoration projects; dam removal that reduced flood risk. More information is available in this fund overview document.
If you would like to discuss a specific project, schedule a meeting with VEM staff at this link.
If you are interested in pursuing this funding, submit an application to DPS.HazardMitigation@vermont.gov with the subject: Application – Flood Resilient Communities Fund by July 31, 2023.
