The Vermont School Crisis Guide

The increased concern for school safety has brought forward a variety of questions regarding what other schools and responders are doing to meet the challenges of providing safe schools. These questions will be discussed at the monthly VSCPT meetings and the answers posted on the Vermont Emergency Management. If you have a question to bring before the VSCPT, please email it to Stephen Earley at searley@gmavt.net and the team will do its best to provide a prompt reply which will be posted on the VEM site, vemvt.com, for other schools to review.

School safety teams should understand that not all responses to crises can be scripted. The Vermont School Crisis Guide 2008 is a compilation of safety recommendations for schools to consider when creating their individual school plans. In times of crisis, multiple problems can surface simultaneously which can add to the difficulty of proper response. Therefore, adults responsible for the care of minors need to use their judgment to make the best decision to keep students safe and clear of danger.
